Q:10 The Steps of Christ Show 'Steps To Christ' is inspired. Chapter 10: A Knowledge of God Ellen p. 85" Many are the ways in which God is seeking to make Himself known to us and bring us into communion with Him. Nature speaks to our senses without ceasing. The open heart will be impressed with the love and glory of God as revealed through the works of His hands. The listening ear can hear and understand the communications of God through the things of nature. Use Nature as an object lesson to learn how salvation works. Ellen p. 86" No tears are shed that God does not notice. There is no smile that He does not mark. If we would but fully believe this, all undue anxieties would be dismissed. Ellen p. 86" God speaks to us through His providential workings and through the influence of His Spirit upon the heart. In our circumstances and surroundings, in the changes daily taking place around us, we may find precious lessons if our hearts are but open to discern them. The psalmist, tracing the work of God’s providence, says, “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.” “Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving-kindness of the Lord.” Psalm 33:5; 107:43. Have a Garden of GOD around you. Ellen p. 87" God speaks to us in His word. Here we have in clearer lines the revelation of His character, of His dealings with men, and the great work of redemption. Scripture is the common way GOD talks audibly back to us. Ellen p. 88" Jesus said of the Old Testament Scriptures,—and how much more is it true of the New,—“They are they which testify of Me,” the Redeemer, Him in whom our hopes of eternal life are centered. John 5:39. Yes, the whole Bible tells of Christ. From the first record of creation—for “without Him was not anything made that was made”—to the closing promise, “Behold, I come quickly,” we are reading of His works and listening to His voice. John 1:3; Revelation 22:12. If you would become acquainted with the Saviour, study the Holy Scriptures. Both former rain (OT) and latter rain teachings (NT). Ellen p. 90" The Bible was not written for the scholar alone; on the contrary, it was designed for the common people. The great truths necessary for salvation are made as clear as noonday; and none will mistake and lose their way except those who follow their own judgment instead of the plainly revealed will of God. The Bible is a "seed shop" for the common people to "sow seeds spiritually", to get "spiritual springs". We should not take the testimony of any man as to what the Scriptures teach, but should study the words of God for ourselves. If we allow others to do our thinking, we shall have crippled energies and contracted abilities. Study Scripture Sola , no human help, no human dictionaries, no human commentaries, no human church creeds, no human translations, just you and the Holy Spirit with GOD. Ellen p. 90" There is nothing more calculated to strengthen the intellect than the study of the Scriptures. No other book is so potent to elevate the thoughts, to give vigor to the faculties, as the broad, ennobling truths of the Bible. The "Special Scriptures" are "Spiritual Springs" "showing seeds" we can "sow seeds" in our minds. Ellen p. 91" But there is but little benefit derived from a hasty reading of the Scriptures. One may read the whole Bible through and yet fail to see its beauty or comprehend its deep and hidden meaning. One passage studied until its significa nce is clear to the mind and its relation to the plan of salvation is evident, is of more value than the perusal of many chapters with no definite purpose in view and no positive instruction gained. Keep your Bible with you. As you have opportunity, read it; fix the texts in your memory. Even while you are walking the streets you may read a passage and meditate upon it, thus fixing it in the mind. Use the "special scriptures" to "sow special seeds" with "spiritual springs" in them. To do this memorize the "prayer promises of power". Ellen p. 91" Some portions of Scripture are indeed too plain to be misunderstood, but there are others whose meaning does not lie on the surface to be seen at a glance. Scripture must be compared with scripture. There must be careful research and prayerful reflection. And such study will be richly repaid. As the miner discovers veins of precious metal concealed beneath the surface of the earth, so will he who perseveringly searches the word of God as for hid treasure find truths of the greatest value, which are concealed from the view of the careless seeker. Electronic Bibles ( such as power bible cd by Phil Lendner 2003 -2006) make it easier to look up Scripture with Scripture, to get used to Hebrew, rather than the new tongues it was translated into. The Author likes Power Bible CD because it can look up all the Hebrew words in interlinear fashion, making understanding the Hebrew word easy to do. If available such software costs between $15 to 19 dollars. Other electronic Bibles such as ESword is free, but doesn't look up all verses for you with a Hebrew word. Ellen p. 91"Never should the Bible be studied without prayer. Before opening its pages we should ask for the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, and it will be given. Prayer for the Holy Spirit to help you read Scripture. Now let's see what the Jesus' version of 'Steps to Christ' says in Scripture regarding the science of salvation with a 'Knowledge of God'. Yashua 10:1 Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. 2 Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images. Why is our Church heart divided? Yashua 10:4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely... Reader can't see the for the fuzzy translation? Yashua 10:4 The Church speaks words falsely like an empty-storm... Can words do that? Become an empty-storm? Yes. If you do not support Jesus with His words, those words become just words like an empty-storm.Get the idea? All show no promise. Knowledge but nothing practical. A mouse water Christian. For more see : (1) Study of empty-storm or vanity (2) Spirit mediums are an empty-storm Yashua 10:8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. The Church has high places for Propensities, for sinning to increase more and more, they wait for the destruction of Jesus during the Second Coming. There are many poetry pictures presented here, not clearly understood by the Author. There for a rare taste, Jesus presents the theme of the Science of Salvation in a postive manner:- Yashua 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. 13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. Poetry hard? Let's write the contrast clearer:- Notice how you can process "knowledge of GOD" - two ways: In relationship with Jesus and you,'sow seeds'- support His 'Words-personified' as 'prayer promises of power',reap His mercy, while breaking your pride, seeking Jesus continually, until He comes with His glory from heaven and takes you home with Him. Or we choose knowledge this way: In relationship with Jesus in name only, but no power, with you and Baal master powers of self,we do good things using our own human powers of effort, reaping evil, promoting lies, seeking self continually,in the presence of 'mighty men' and their glory on the earth here and now. Notice how Jesus in His Science of Salvation presents us with the theme on Knowledge. Knowledge is useless unless it has relationship with Divine Power. The next chapter of Steps To Christ, concerns The Privilege of Prayer |
