(15)Shadday : "Shadday" :. Hypothesis:Do Ellen White writings support the Shadday as the Holy Spirit? Introduction: WARNING There is no high ranking denominational person willing to admit the Shadday is anything but an adjective functional description of the Father or GOD as a whole. They say there is no evidence whatsoever for the Shadday being another name for the Holy Spirit, the evidence for this theory of faith is pure speculation.( A study by the Author was shown to SDA scholars many years ago, and they rejected the studies.) However, this website proves the Shadday is the personal form of the Holy Spirit. The Shadday expresses femaleness love as a distinct personality, while the Father expresses maleness love as a distinct personality. Together the Father and the Shadday are similes of heavenly parents, as we humans understand Parent and Family functions. Spiritual Springs is unique presenting this theory of faith, and will now introduce the reader to the hypothesis that the Holy Spirit records this theory of faith inside Ellen White writings, proving her messages to be inspired. In order to prove Ellen White is inspired, this study chooses very strange Hebrew words and theories of faith not found in the Ellen White denominational mainstream faith. This is done deliberately in order to show her words are indeed inspired by the Holy Spirit of GOD. It would be a very sad day if people were forced to give up their individual differences in their theories of faith, and adopt forcefully a corporate one just because it make masses of people easier to control. And yet we have historical accounts of Church persecuting people just because they dared to be different. It is of the Author's opinion that this material is found in Scripture. Surely we are all welcome to our theories of faith and to enjoy our differences and grow together as sincere disciples of Jesus. Shalom The Ancient Hebrew reads "Pressed door with active hands" or "Pressed to the breast with active hands" Jeff Benner is wrong in assuming the Hebrew word "shadday" means "breast". The word has no real English equivalent, because it is a functional descriptor of the third co-eternal Being in heaven, and thus translated by the author as Shadday. Discussion: This study will now prove the Holy Spirit is the Shadday and is recorded even in Ellen White writings. (Case 1) Holy Spirit administrates visions: Nu 24:16 He hath said, which heard the words of God (Elohim), and knew the knowledge of the most High (Father), which saw the vision of the Almighty (Shadday), falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: Nu 24:4 He hath said, which heard the words of God (Elohim), which saw the vision of the Almighty (Shadday), falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: Job 33:4 The (Holy) Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty (Shadday) hath given me life. {LS80 233.1} Then Thayer took a heavy, large quarto family Bible which was lying on the table, and seldom used, opened it, and laid it upon Sister Ellen while in vision, as she was then inclined backward against the wall in the corner of the room. Immediately after the Bible was laid upon her, she arose upon her feet, and walked into the middle of the room, with the Bible open in one hand, and lifted as high as she could reach, and with her eyes steadily looking upward, declared in a solemn manner, �The inspired testimony from God,� or words of the same import. While the Bible was thus extended in one hand, and her eyes looking upwards, and not on the Bible, she continued for a long time, to turn over the leaves with her other hand, and place her finger upon certain passages, and correctly repeat their words with a solemn voice. {LS 468.3} "In December, 1844, the Holy Spirit gave her a revelation of the second coming of Christ. In this vision of the future there was given a view of the glorious reward that awaits the redeemed and the terrible fate that will come to all who refuse to serve their Lord and Master. {LP 39.1} Following these events, the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch under the preaching of Philip, the vision of Peter at Joppa, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Cornelius and his household, served to convince the apostles and leading brethren at Jerusalem, that God had granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life. We accepted the truth point by point, under the demonstration of the Holy Spirit . I would be taken off in vision, and explanations would be given me. I was given illustrations of heavenly things, and of the sanctuary, so that we were placed where light was shining on us in clear, distinct rays. {GW 302.3} O, how much we need genuine missionaries! How much we need men and women who will labor under the supervision of the Almighty, in the power of his Spirit! How much we need those who know that God has called them to his service! It is when the work goes hard, that living missionaries reveal by their courage and fortitude and their trust in God that they are led and taught by the Holy Spirit. {RH, September 27, 1906 par. 24} For those who consider the Father or Jesus administrates visions :- But Jesus showed how vain is this claim; for He said, "Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto Me." Only through Christ could they receive a knowledge of the Father. Humanity could not endure the vision of His glory. Those who had learned of God had been listening to the voice of His Son, and in Jesus of Nazareth they would recognize Him who through nature and revelation has declared the Father. {DA 387.5} "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life." Through the beloved John, who listened to these words, the Holy Spirit declared to the churches, "This is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life." 1 John 5:11, 12. And Jesus said, "I will raise him up at the last day." Christ became one flesh with us, in order that we might become one spirit with Him. It is by virtue of this union that we are to come forth from the grave,--not merely as a manifestation of the power of Christ, but because, through faith, His life has become ours. Those who see Christ in His true character, and receive Him into the heart, have everlasting life. It is through the Spirit that Christ dwells in us; and the Spirit of God, received into the heart by faith, is the beginning of the life eternal. {DA 388.1} Ellen White records here, only the Holy Spirit administrates the glory of the Father and Jesus to humans, lest they perished from direct exposure of the vision. (Case 2) Holy Spirit (shadday) Job 6:4 For the arrows of the Almighty (Shadday) are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God "eloah", do set themselves in array against me. This is a poetry Hebrew parallel. The work of the Shadday is a simile of the work of the Father, they function as similes of parents in a family. AA.045.001 The arguments of the apostles alone, though clear and convincing, would not have removed the prejudice that had withstood so much evidence. But the Holy Spirit sent the arguments home to hearts with divine power. The words of the apostles were as sharp arrows of the Almighty, convicting men of their terrible guilt in rejecting and crucifying the Lord of glory. (Case 3) Holy Spirit (shadday) Ps 91:1 � He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High (Father)shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Shadday). This is a poetry Hebrew parallel. The work of the Father is a simile of the work of the Shadday. They function as similes of heavenly parents. DA.512.003 Let mothers come to Jesus with their perplexities. They will find grace sufficient to aid them in the management of their children. The gates are open for every mother who would lay her burdens at the Saviour's feet. He who said, "Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not," still invites the mothers to lead up their little ones to be blessed by Him. Even the babe in its mother's arms may dwell as under the shadow of the Almighty through the faith of the praying mother. John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit from his birth. If we will live in communion with God, we too may expect the divine Spirit to mold our little ones, even from their earliest moments. Testing the theory of faith: Consider all other passages where Ellen White uses the references to Shadday (including the equivalent term Pantokrator in the New Testament, a Greek translation of the Hebrew). Ellen White messages are written in brown. "Quoted" Scholar comments are written in gray "End Quote". Author comments are written in blue. Bible passages are written in purple. (Case 4) 6T.091.003 Baptism is a most solemn renunciation of the world. Those who are baptized in the threefold name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, at the very entrance of their Christian life declare publicly that they have forsaken the service of Satan and have become members of the royal family, children of the Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord "YAHWEH" Almighty "Shadday"." 2 Corinthians 6: 17, 18 The colour highlight help equate whom is whom throughout this study. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three fold members of a royal family. This is written by Ellen White clearly I hope to our readers here. Notice we become children of this royal family. Ps 82:6 � I have said, Ye (Humans) are gods "elohim"; and all of you are children of the most High (Father). Ps 8:5 For thou hast made him (Mankind) a little lower than the "elohim" , and hast crowned him with glory and honour. The KJV translation is misleading, mankind is ranked just under the "elohim" except for creator powers, mankind was made higher than the angels, but lower than "the elohim". This explains Satan's jealousy for coming here over other unfallen worlds because mankind was made to replenish the lost angels of heaven. Notce the passage in Ellen White, and Scripture: "I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord "YAHWEH" Almighty "Shadday"." 2 Corinthians 6: 17, 18 The reference to "sons and daughters" is a poetry simile to "Father-Yahweh""Shadday". "QUOTE" �Lord� and �Almighty� here stand in apposition. There is no hint that two different entities are in view. "End quote" While scholars are welcome to this opinion, their comment is added to make this study fair and unbiased. However the Bible is full of poetry similes called parallels, and this passage suggests a different viewpoint along with the way the Holy Spirit records the other English words using Ellen White's hand. ST.1901-06-19.006 God (Elohim reference) says, "Come out from among them, and be ye separate, . . . and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord (Father-Yahweh reference) Almighty. (Shadday reference)" This is the pledge of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; made to you if you will keep your baptismal vow, and touch not the unclean thing. "QUOTE" The statement is made by the Trinity as a whole. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together make this pledge, singular. "End quote" The term trinity is not sola scriptoria, see studies , but the Family of GOD is singular as a term, is correct. It becomes very difficult to unravel individual functional descriptors of members within the family, because they function with singularity. Hence one can understand why "Father-Yahweh Shadday" is viewed as a single entity. It is a reference to heavenly parents as a single entity. How can a plural concept be viewed as a singular entity? Well it does in Hebrew, see studies of "elohim" which is a plural concept, but viewed with singularity. (Case 5) In their prayers they use the words God Almighty in a very common and irreverent manner. Those who do this have no sense of the exalted character of God, of Christ, or of heavenly things. 1T.410.002 Then let not these illegitimate children boast over the lawful sons and daughters of the Almighty. 1T.633.001 In many passages like this the English term "Almighty" and "God Almighty" can be confusing. Without Bible verses for parallel linking, it is hard to know what these terms mean or relate to? (Case 6) 4T.014.002 I have been shown what man is without a knowledge of the will of God. Crimes and iniquity fill up the measure of his life. But when the Spirit of God reveals to him the full meaning of the law, what a change takes place in his heart! Like Belshazzar, he reads intelligently the handwriting of the Almighty, and conviction takes possession of his soul. Da 5:5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. Notice there is no reference to WHOM of Elohim wrote the message on the wall. Ellen White records the Almighty did. (Case 7) 4T.161.003 How easily the armies of heaven brought down the walls that had seemed so formidable to the spies who brought the false report! The word of God was the only weapon used. The Mighty One of Israel had said: "I have given into thine hand Jericho." If a single warrior had brought his strength to bear against the walls, the glory of God would have been lessened and His will frustrated. But the work was left to the Almighty; and had the foundation of the battlements been laid in the center of the earth, and their summits reached the arch of heaven, the result would have been the same when the Captain of the Lord's host led His against the Almighty. 4T.179.001 Notice the Shadday (Holy Spirit)is the Almighty medium through which Jesus as the Captain of the angelic host carry out the work of battles of war against the enemy. See the following:- {DA 352.2} Their warfare is not to be waged against flesh and blood, but "against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12, R. V. They are to contend with supernatural forces, but they are assured of supernatural help. All the intelligences of heaven are in this army. And more than angels are in the ranks. The Holy Spirit, the representative of the Capta in of the Lord's host, comes down to direct the battle. Our infirmities may be many, our sins and mistakes grievous; but the grace of God is for all who seek it with contrition. The power of Omnipotence is enlisted in behalf of those who trust in God . Isa 13:6 � Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty (Shadday). Note the Holy Spirit does the bidding of Jesus as leader of the army for destruction. (Case 8) AA.073.002 "Whiles it remained, was it not thine own?" Peter asked. No undue influence had been brought to bear upon Ananias to compel him to sacrifice his possessions to the general good. He had acted from choice. But in attempting to deceive the disciples, he had lied to the Almighty. Ac 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. Notice while the passage suggests the Holy Spirit is the Shadday, this functional descriptor is a representative to Elohim. This can confuse the term "Almighty" because the term refers to "the medium of the Holy Spirit" through which the Family powers of GOD are made manifest. (Case 9) RH.1906-09-27.024 (1906) O, how much we need genuine missionaries! How much we need men and women who will labor under the supervision of the Almighty , in the power of his Spirit! How much we need those who know that God has called them to his service! It is when the work goes hard, that living missionaries reveal by their courage and fortitude and their trust in God that they are led and taught by the Holy Spirit. This passage clearly suggests the Holy Spirit is the Shadday, the medium through which the powers of the Father and the Son flow. RH.1910-11-10.003 (1910) Christ declared, I have pledged myself, as the only begotten Son of the Lord (Father reference) God Almighty, to carry out God�s (Elohim reference) plan to win souls from Satan. The Saviour alone can defeat the enemy. He works in man's behalf to uncover his plans, that souls may be led to turn from the arch-deceiver. RH.1910-11-10.004 The Prince of heaven, he who was one with the Father, gave himself to redeem the fallen race. This passages says Jesus is the Son of the Father-Yahweh Almighty, thus we have two heavenly parents suggested here. (Case 10) ST.1878-01-31.018 But what if you should have all the honor and the applause that the world could give you, what then? Let disease take hold of your mortal frames, can this honor and applause, and the praise of men relieve you of one pang? Can it relieve you of one distress? Can it be of the least advantage to you in healing you of your maladies? It cannot. But what does the Father say? "I will be a father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters saith the Lord (Father reference) Almighty." He will connect you with himself, crown you with glory and honor, immortality and eternal life. This honor, that you can seek for with a surety of obtaining, will never perish. Do you seek gold, the riches of this world? This passage suggests the "Lord GOD Almighty" is a single entity and the Father, He will connect you to His salvation. How do we make sense of passages like this? Well in Hebrew in the presence of Families of maleness love and femaleness love, the maleness love is referenced. This is not some racist thing, its the Hebrew way of showing respect and it does not belittle the Shadday who is not referenced. The Father and the Son have powers that flow through the Medium of the Holy Spirit, unto mankind, yet only the Father and the Son take credit for their salvational flow flowing to mankind, even though all three members of the Godhead have functional descriptors for our salvation. Many persons of faith question why only mention of the Father and His Son during the battle of Lucifer in heaven during His sinning. They do not consider the role of the Shadday as an administrator of the medium of the Holy Spirit to empower a universe of dysfunction so Lucifer could continue His sinning unto the fruit of open rebellion. Consider it meekness or humility or Hebrew respect, but love does not seek its own, not boast one above another, especially in a Family. Conclusion: If one is to consider a person has inspired messages only from GOD, than one should be able to find messages that are hidden even from the writer themselves. Ellen White neither knew Hebrew as a language, nor understood all the truth revealed in the Scriptures as written in Ancient Hebrew thought. And even today there more diamonds of truth awaiting to be discovered. Therefore, there is enough evidence to conclude the Holy Spirit through Ellen White wanted her English to be record the Shadday (Almighty) as a functional descriptor of the Holy Spirit, who administrates the heavenly medium through which the powers of the Father and the Son flow for mankind's salvation. |
