Q76: 83. "The Walk to Emmaus" Show the Desire of Ages is inspired.. (1) The SOP writes Hebrew Beginning at Moses, the very Alpha of Bible history, Christ expounded in all the Scriptures the thingsconcerning Himself. Had He Page 799 first made Himself known to them, their hearts would have been satisfied. In the fullness of their joythey would have hungered for nothing more. But it was necessary for them to understand the witnessborne to Him by the types and prophecies of the Old Testament. Upon these their faith must beestablished. Christ performed no miracle to convince them, but it was His first work to explain theScriptures. It seems SOP writes the Greek term "alpha", but the Hebrew word for the first letter is "aleph" is a similar sound and similar spelling. It seems Hebrew was first, and Greek followed copying Hebrew letters as there own.The end of history, in Greek is Omega, is NOT the same as the end of history in Hebrew, being the "tau" or "t", the Cross symbol. (2) The importance of the OT.. They had looked upon His death as the destruction of all their hopes. Now He showed fromthe prophets that this was the very strongest evidence for their faith. In teaching these disciples, Jesus showed the importance of the Old Testament as a witness to Hismission. Many professed Christians now discard the Old Testament, claiming that it is no longer of anyuse. But such is not Christ's teaching. So highly did He value it that at one time He said, "If they hearnot Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke16:31. Joe 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain (mowreh) "former rain" moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain (mowreh) "former rain" , and the latter rain (malqowsh) "latte rain" in the first month. Jeff Benner lists the following Hebrew words together as related: Notice another verse listing more of these words together: Ho 6:3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain(geshem) "rains", as the latter (malqowsh) and former rain (yarah) "teachings" unto the earth. "Geshem" 1653, reads in Pictograph form "The walking pressed flow",is a picture of someone walking in the sticky mud in the rain. "malqowsh" 4456, reads in Pictograph form "The flowing authority over the horizon securely pressed", meaning late shower; is a shower guided by God for the purpose to gather in more of His children, from which a related word 3953, or "gather" means. Notice another verse listing more of these words together: Ex 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain (matar) "rain" bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law (towrah) "teachings", or no.(KJV) "matar" 4305, reads in Pictograph form, "The flowing basket head" is an interesting pictograph meaning because the verse is used for bread flowing down as rain. De 11:14 That I will give you the rain (matar) of your land in his due seaso n, the first rain (yowreh) and the latter rain (malqowsh), that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. "leqach" 3948 is spelled the same as the verb form 3947, meaning to "take", thus the noun form means "things-taken". Jeff uses the term "learning". We could also use the term "education". This is a small study of Hebrew words, to show the reader that "rain" is a symbol of "teachings", the things the "teacher" "throws down" for us growing as "Seedlings" to "Take". So where is the "teacher's teachings" ? the former and latter teachings ? the former and latter rain? The only answer for this is Jesus is our teacher, and the former writings (OT) and the latter writings (NT) are His teachings for us to take, or learn from. And this is what the SOP is speaking about here. (3) Receiving the joy of Jesus ! The simple evening meal of bread is soon prepared. It is placed before the guest, who has taken Hisseat at the head of the table. Now He puts forth His hands to bless the food. The disciples start back inastonishment. Their companion spreads forth His hands in exactly the same way as their Master used todo. They look again, and lo, they see in His hands the print of nails. Both exclaim at once, It is the LordJesus! He has risen from the dead! Page 801 The night is dark, but the Sun of Righteousness is shining upon them. Their hearts leap for joy. Theyseem to be in a new world. Christ is a living Saviour. They no longer mourn over Him as dead. Christis risen--over and over again they repeat it. This is the message they are carrying to the sorrowing ones. They must tell them the wonderful story of the walk to Emmaus. When does this burning burn in our hearts to experience real joy ? When we find Jesus Lu 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
