Q32: 39. "Give Ye Them to Eat" Show the Desire of Ages is inspired.. (1) Live and eat simply.. Christ never worked a miracle except to supply a genuine necessity, and every miracle was of acharacter to lead the people to the tree of life, whose leaves are for the healing of the nations. Thesimple food Page 367 passed round by the hands of the disciples contained a whole treasure of lessons. It was humble farethat had been provided; the fishes and barley loaves were the daily food of the fisher folk about the Seaof Galilee. Christ could have spread before the people a rich repast, but food prepared merely for thegratification of appetite would have conveyed no lesson for their good. Christ taught them in this lessonthat the natural provisions of God for man had been perverted. If men today were simple in their habits, living in harmony with nature's laws, as did Adam and Eve inthe beginning, there would be an abundant supply for the needs of the human family. There would befewer imaginary wants, and more opportunities to work in God's ways. Jesus wonders of power come only when there is a genuine need and manner to lead others to the tree of life. We need to live and eat simply. (2) Live always in relationship.. If we plan according to our own ideas, the Lord will leave us to our own mistakes. But when, afterfollowing His directions, we are brought into strait places, He will deliver us. We are not to give up indiscouragement, but in every emergency we are to seek help from Him who has infinite resources atHis command. Often we shall be surrounded with trying circumstances, and then, in the fullestconfidence, we must depend upon God. Following Jesus directions is the correct way of reading the Hebrew word translated commandments. Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. ( KJV) Joh 15:10 If ye guard my directions, ye shall abide in my maleness-love; even as I have guarded my Father's directions, and abide in his maleness-love. ( Ancient Hebrew) Notice yet another example of how the SOP is inspired. Why are there two directions for living? Because the Father's directions (spelled out in the "ten commandments" in Exodus 20) are for walking in relationship with the Father without missing, while Jesus' directions is a witness to the Father's directions, for those who walk while missing, but want to walk eventually without missing. Both have the same end goal, but Jesus' teachings deals with those found missing relationship. De 31:26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.(KJV) De 31:26 Take this scroll of the teachings, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Father-YHWH your Elohiym, that it may be there for a witness against thee.(Ancient Hebrew) When did Jesus first give His directions for sin-offering? Ge 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD (Jesus-YHWH) God (Elohiym) make coats of skins, and clothed them. Jesus directions for sin-offering was spoken orally to Adam when they sinned, and demonstrated to them. (3) We are a channel for God for communication.. The disciples were the channel of communication between Christ and the people. This should be agreat encouragement to His disciples today. Christ is the great center, the source of all strength. Hisdisciples are to receive their supplies from Him. The most intelligent, the most spiritually minded, canbestow only as they receive. Of themselves they can supply nothing for the needs of the soul. We canimpart only that which we receive from Christ; and we can receive only as we impart to others. As we continue imparting, we continue to receive; and the more we impart, the more we shall receive. Thuswe may be constantly believing, trusting, receiving, and imparting. Notice how the relationship of power flow works. An electric water jug boils water only for as long as the water is cold and the flow of power is freely received and given away. We are the vessel jug of clay in which the power flow of electricity enters and leaves, and the water is the symbol of many people. Electricity is a power that cannot be seen, but flows through us because we have faith in Jesus, who generates the power when we ask. If we do not ask we do not receive, and if there is no where worthy for the power flow to go, such a power flow is presumption. Read through this SOP passage many times and take in what it is saying and how relationship in Jesus works. (4) Overcoming doubt in Jesus.. Christ has bidden us, through the prophet, "Deal thy bread to the hungry," and "satisfy the afflictedsoul;" "when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him," and "bring the poor that are cast out to thyhouse." Isa. 58:7-10. He has bidden us, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to everycreature." Mark 16:15. But how often our hearts sink, and faith fails us, as we see how great is theneed, and how small the means in our hands. Like Andrew looking upon the five barley loaves and thetwo little fishes, we exclaim, "What are they among so many?" Often we hesitate, unwilling to give allthat we have, fearing to spend and to be spent for others. But Jesus has bidden us, "Give ye them toeat." His command is a promise; and behind it is the same power that fed the multitude beside the sea. The Spirit of Prophecy says "Give ye them toeat." is a promise of Jesus power, of all His infinite resources ready for us, if we but ask humbly in faith... Mt 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. A mountain in the Holy Writings is an enourmous power opposed to GOD, such as Satan or His agents like Babylon. Notice when you pray prayer promises like these, you also need to spend time with more prayer and fasting. In other words some prayer promises require more faith than other prayer promises. So spending time with Jesus in relationship, through prayer and fasting is good, before you witness such Jesus power to others in need. As you listen to the still small voice of Jesus, He will tell you want to do, where to go and when you are ready. A common problem is we lack courage to obey when Jesus speaks... Here is an example of prayer talk through the conscience , where a believer hears Jesus or the Holy Spirit or both members of the Godhead speak to us.. May God , my strong authority be praised ! Jesus is talking to me, through my conscience in prayer. Prayer is talking to my strong authority. Me: "I have forgotten my diary book"; Ja: "Walk back and get it, there's time..." Me: [looking at my mobile phone time] "not enough time..." Ja: [silence] Me: "walks to wharf, waiting for ferry boat..." [after long time...a couple arrives, he starts fishing and leaves his wife to fish, while he fishes elsewhere...] Ja: "..talk to her.." Me: "not me Lord.." [ despondency ] Ja: "..be my witness..." Me: [ a man arrives and I talk to him....finally...after many excuses to fumble time..]"..Alright..." Ja: "..the servant who says He will go..but doesn't.." Me: "..I see the boat is not coming..." [...finally I talk to her,.. we make light talk of timetables, and boats...] Ja: "..meekness is not just about weakness...its also about courage.." Me: "..I see.." "Courage" Learning to have the courage to witness, and talk when Jesus tells me to talk His words. "When Jesus talks, listening happens, but so one must obedient". Obedience is a difficult thing to achieve, especially when we are weak and lack courage, but even more so when our sin of pride stands in the way. The ferry boat was late, running on a different time table today. Jesus was right, I had time to walk back and get my diary book, in fact 2 hours of time. So I wait for the next ferry boat, several hours ahead of time, with time to record another example of prayer, for you, the reader. In an effort to show you how prayer works, how Jesus through prayer expects obedience, and notice how fast prayer is answered. Prayer is Jesus talking to you. Often we see prayer as the proud sinner praying to his god . This is a contradiction. Most times the only person strong authority we are talking to , is ourselves. Prayer is mostly about Jesus talking back to you. So listen and wait for the still small voice. Shalom (5) Never rely on human resources.. In our work for God there is danger of relying too largely upon what man with his talents and abilitycan do. Thus we lose sight of the one Master Worker. Too often the worker for Christ fails to realizehis personal responsibility. He is in danger of shifting his burden upon organizations, instead of relyingupon Him who is the source of all strength In the science of the salvation system, there are two couples coupled into a single coupling, and the Hebrew word "baal" means only ONE master can open and close the coupling, using the powers therein. The SOP says correctly we have in relationship ONE Master Worker, who is Jesus, and His reources, not human power or human organizations. (6) GOD is highly relational.. The Lord says, "Give, and it shall be given unto you." "He that soweth sparingly shall reap alsosparingly; and he that soweth with blessings shall reap also with blessings. Love is a functional power that is made by relationship and feeds relationship. Therefore if Elohiym is love as the Holy Writings say, then everything GOD does is highly relational. Religions that consider Elohiym as a solitary "god" all alone, as YHWH only, d o NOT understand how love works. Some people one can love themselves, ye receive and give to yourself...is this love? No this is called selfishness. Ideally love is when one marriage partner pleases only the happiness of the other...always looking out for the other... that is how love is, freely we give away and freely love comes back. Love is a circuit of motion between givers and receivers, between producers and consumers. And even than the consumer becomes a producer for the other to consume that which is generated. This kind of loving is not practiced in a fallen world, because we are found missing true love as a relationship power. For more about self love, and the Father cannot love alone, click here.
