What is the Bible symbol for pride?
Q6: What is the Bible symbol for pride ?
In the Bible, pride is a symbol for rock. Why rock ? Rock is hard, cold,
lifeless and unable to make plants grow well. Soil on the other hand is
weathered rock. Weathered rock means the rock is broken into tiny pieces
and changed chemically by living things into organic matter. Good soil is
living soil, from which living plants grow well. A dead soil has no living
components in it and while of some limited use, does not help living things
grow well in it.
The Hebrew word for this type of rock is "cela" which is also a symbol
for Jesus as well as a symbol for pride.
1Ki 19:11 ... and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD;
Here in this verse Jesus is breaking the rock of pride into pieces...
In Isaiah 22:15 GOD accuses a treasurer by his actual name, Shebna,
and says why do you think yourself to make a tomb resting place upon
the rock "cela" ?
Isa 22:15 Thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,
16 What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, and that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock?
This was a story of the ultimate display of pride.
Have a look around the cities and the tall, concrete structures man makes.
Are these not the ultimate displays of human pride ? Shalom
