Q12: What does the Hebrew word "help-mate" mean? Hypothesis: What does the Hebrew word "ezer" mean? Introduction: We have discovered many meaning of Hebrew words now and are ready to see what the "messenger of Yahweh" means in the OT. The Bible is full of poetry pictures. An interesting picture is the simile pictures of a "help mate" and how this relates back to our heavenly pictures of GOD.
Jeff Benner's lexicon meaning is pictured here. In Ancient Hebrew the meaning of the "Seeing eye plough the head of the mind" suggests one "looking out for another" and thus can refer to a male or female helper. Method: Examples of verses with "help mate" in them are provided for the reader. Conclusion: The meaning of the Hebrew "ezer" is "help mate". The term does not only apply to gender female, but can also apply to gender male. Discussion: (1) De 33:26 There is none like unto the "single numerical ONE of Strong Authority" of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help
, and in his excellency on the sky.
Notice the symbol of Israel is a single numerical ONE of Strong Authority, a simile of a god, and even though Israel has many people, is a singular-plural concept. But Israel was to be the "help-mate" for heaven.
(2) Ps 115:9 O Israel, trust thou in the LORD "Yahweh" : he is their help "help mate"
and their shield.
Yahweh is our human help-mate, a simile of how the woman is a help-mate for man.
(3) Ge 49:25 Even by the God "single numerical ONE of Strong Authority" of thy father, who shall help "ezer" thee; and by the Almighty "Shadday", who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:
The heavenly Father and the heavenly Shadday are similes of heavenly parents, both help-mates.
(4) Ps 46:4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God "Elohiym", the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High (Father-Yahweh). Ps 46:5 God "Elohiym", is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God "Elohiym", shall help "ezer" her, and that right early.
The Father of Elohiym is a help-mate for the city and helps her.
(5) Ps 119:86 All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help "ezer" thou me.
The commandments are directions for the eye ploughing the mind of the head, our help-mate.
(6) Isa 50:1 Thus saith the LORD "Yahweh" , Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. Isa 50:4 The Lord "Adonay" GOD "Yahwih" hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. Isa 50:5 The Lord "Adonay" GOD "Yahwih" hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. Isa 50:7 For the Lord "Adonay" GOD "Yahwih" will help "ezer" me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
In the context of the whole passage the Adonay Yahwih who is our help-mate for sinning is Jesus.
(7) Da 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help "ezer" me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Michael "who is like Elohiym" is a chief prince "sar" and a "help-mate" for humans battling with Satan, continues in the OT and NT as Jesus, the chief commander of angels and His angels fight against Satan and his angels.
(8) Mt 15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord "Adonay", help "boetheo" me.
Assuming "boetheo" is the translation match for "ezer" in the Hebrew, the concept of a "help mate" continues into the NT. Notice Jesus is worshipped as a help mate.
(9) Ac 26:22 Having therefore obtained help "ezer" of God "Elohiym", I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: 23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
Paul speaks of Jesus as the help-mate of Elohiym, who was foretold to come and suffer and die to be a light for Israel and Gentiles.
(10) Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son "Ben" of God "Elohiym", let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help "ezer" in time of need.
Jesus the Son of Elohiym is our help-mate for salvation, our High Priest before the Father.
Wasn't that a lovely digression? In the Garden of Eden, Elohiym made for Adam a helper that came from within his own genetics. The helper was a genetic clone but not a personality clone. We have already seen that the heavenly parents are also help mates for mankind, acting as similes of a mother and father with functional roles of protection and nurture. Since love is also composed of TWO Hebrew word rather than one, this also cements the concept that mankind has within himself the entity of two compositions of love, and that Elohiym simply took maleness-love for the gender male and femaleness-love for the gender female making them help mates for each other. These simile pictures tell us darkly what Elohiym is like.
Now we will continue our study of the "messenger of Yahweh" confirming with more evidence that this messenger was Son-Yahweh. Shalom
