Q8: What are examples of OT torah we should keep?
Let's look are old testament torah-teachings not found in the New Testament torah that we should also keep. (1) Sabbath (Q 1) The word "shabbath" not found in Genesis.
(A 1) Yes it is, verbs and nouns with the same spellings are the same words of meanings, only the actions are different. See studies.
Ge 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested "shabbathed" on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
The Sabbath was beginning on the seventh day and thus the Lord rested in it (verb - action incomplete). The Bible does not record, evening and morning the seventh day, to signal the beginning of the eighth day, Sunday, but to begin the seventh day Sabbath only. The Bible was avoiding certain labels of time.
(Q 2) There is no mention of Sabbath after the Cross
(A 2) Yes there is.
Ac 13:14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
(Q 3) The disciples only entered Jewish churches because they were witnessing, not worshipping..
(A 3)Christians worshipped in other places too on Sabbath.
Ac 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy..
(too many to fit inside one building)
Ac 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
No Jewish building here, just a tree by the river, on Sabbath...
(2) Tithes
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it
Ne 10:38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
The Priests were supported by tithes, and the tithe of the tithe even from priests went on to sppport the house of the Lord in some other capacity.
(Q 1) Should this system run in the modern times ?
(A 1) Yes, but note the verses.
Ac 20:33 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. Ac 20:34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. Ac 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
But only if you are an evananglist, otherwise we should support the poor, the weak and our community.
1Co 9:12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
Beware the lazy Shepherds who live off the fat of giving, and covet power..
2Th 3:8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
2Th 3:9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
The worker deserves his wages, so Paul left us an example to follow, He was a tailor and supported himself as well as advancing the gospel of Jesus.
(3) Health
(Q 1) Should these health practices run in the modern times ?
(A 1) Yes, note the following:-
(1) Hygiene rules. five rules of health and Unhealthy things to avoid
De 23:12 Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:
(a) Faecal human waste should be compost earth buried. Not septic water buried, causing loss of nitrates, and green house gases and fermenting diseases in the water.
Le 19:19 Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.
(b) Do not wear wool and cotton together on your skin. The static charge damages the largest organ on your body, the skin. Make sure the clothing nearest your skin is 100% cotton. Its a health issue not regarded in modern times.
(c) Do not eat food made from genetically modifed sources, the mixing of kinds.
Do not mate animals from diverse kinds to create unusual species. Its a health issue not regarded in modern times.
(4) Marriage
Ge 16:3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
Marriage is defined as sexual intercourse. However without a family blessing and public witnessing such marriages are shameful.
Ex 22:16 And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
Here two virgins who come in marriage are not to be disfellowshipped over the making of a shameful marriage. Yet this Old Testament torah is ignored by many in the Churches of modern times.
These are some of the more common ones not regarded in modern times.
3 Gen 1:29 Eat every grass seed, vegetable and fruit from trees
In today's polluted world the easiest way to decrease the poison in our diet is to eat plants, rather than animals.
4 Gen 2:15 Man is to work his garden land and take care of it
Why are we busy doing rat race stuff and forgetting the country living? Get out of the cities!
7 Gen 2:24 Man should build families
Families today are fragmented, worse still supported by only one parent, or parents expressing only one personality of love.
23 Gen 35:2 Change your clothes regularly
Today we let fashion fly instead of function.
63 Ex 16:23 Friday is the day of cooking meals for Sabbath
Preparation day so on the Ceasing Day we can cease from normal labour and work on spiritual matters instead.
64 Ex 16: 29 Do not work for food on Sabbath
Sabbath is a ceasing from your normal activities, and instead a working on things pleasing to GOD.. such as helping those with their own redemption.
81 Ex20:26 You shall not ascend the altar by steps
How many Churches have a platform to cause self exaltation? While the physical altar of stones is replaced with other structures, the intent of formalizing prayer before others is in fact an altar.
105 Ex 22:25 Lend money freely without interest
This means also not to borrow without interest. How much better the world would be off if we did not every borrow money to burden ourselves with a mortgage?
110 Ex 23:1 Give truthful reports
How many scientists make biased reports because of the pressure of their sponsors wanting some desired outcome?
115 Ex 23:6 Defend those weak and help their judgement
How many lawyers seek to make business from justice rather than helping the poor ?
116 Ex 23:8 Accept no bribes
How many officals expect corruption and bribes in their politcal systems?
119 Ex 23:12 The Sabbath is time for animals and people to refresh
The word refresh means to recharge our living energies within our bodies.
121 Ex 23:14 Keep three feasts to me in a year
Family reunions are important to help remind us of our corporate love as a larger family.
131 Ex 23:33 Be aware of living in the world, but not be of the world.
So hard to do when the only market in town is the Satanic ones.
133 Ex 25:8 Make a church according to this pattern for me to dwell in.
The church building should face west, as was done by the sanctuary Moses was told to build on earth.
142 Ex 30:18 Make a laver for foot washing to keep thee humble before me.
Should we not do foot washing every time you enter the church?
162 Le 5:15 The trespass offering be be atoned with money..
How many churches have a sin-offering money box for tresspasses so one can show attitude of gratitude to Jesus?
179 Le 14:8 Disease hygiene rules
There are many hygiene torah teachings in the old testament still useful for us today.
192 Le 17:15 Don't eat anmials that dies by themselves, they are diseased
How many of us eat animals that would have died by themselves, but rushed to market before they died, the farmer knowing they contain life threatening diseases?
195 Le 19:4 No technology gods
How many of us play with our technology gods, secure in the feeling that Science will save all our problems?
201 Le 19:13 Be fair with worker wages
The torah teaching of a fair wage for a fair days work, still applies.
206 Le 19:19 No hybrids with plant genetics
Whether this means hybrids is debatable, but it sure means the condemnation of GMO foods, which we eat in ignorance..
291 Nu 15:38 Hebrew to wear uniform of ribbon of blue on the clothes..
The Salvation Army people wear badges, God bless them, why don't other assembles identify themselves as the Scripture torah says?
Next we will consider the Ten Commandments as a special case of torah.
