Q20: Does Ancient Hebrew help Scripture ? Today as a result of Greek culture, our modern living lifestyle stems from Greek thinking and Greek culture, even our Scripture verses are translated with Greek thinking in mind, not that there's nothing wrong with Greek thinking, it's just very different from Hebrew thought. Here is a table generalization that contrasts the two cultures:- These two cultures are NOT in opposition with each other BUT the Hebrew way of doing things through external actions were object-lessons of GOD showing them His ways of doing things internally through God-empowered actions they couldn't do themselves (in human strength alone). De 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. This is an internal literal humans cannot do, except GOD changes the character of the heart for him. Ps 51:2 Wash me throughly from my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin-offering. This is an internal literal humans cannot do, except GOD forgives the sinner of his guilt and becomes the sin-offering for our guilt. We cannot remove the penalty of our sinning against GOD, only GOD can do this. This is why sinning against His Laws of Love, the Ten commandments, is a big deal to GOD. Ps 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. This is an internal literal humans cannot do, being born again through a different womb, the creative womb of the Holy Spirit that creates new character in mankind. What a joy to experience this re-creation literal of GOD, in our minds...we experience new characters that come from GOD, not from our fallen flesh. There is much to learn from studying Ancient Hebrew thought and applying this to our salvation today. If GOD gave Adam Hebrew as a language and as a mode of sensing his world, than GOD still expects us to sense salvation through a Hebrew mindset, to see salvation as practical actions, not theoretical concepts based only in the mind. We should be loving and loveable Christians, embracing the mum and dad conceptual relationships of love, the family models of a nomadic way of life, seeing God with child li ke faith in the country, away from cities, where things are more ordered and where GOD can speak to us more easily. This does not mean there is no place for modern technology, it does however mean, less is more, and living with more of GOD requires us to live with less of the love for the world.
