Why did GOD give Saul an evil spirit?
Q3:Why did GOD give Saul an evil spirit?
1Sa 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
We need to ask the question, why did the Holy Spirit of Yahweh depart from Saul, if GOD chose Saul as the first king over Israel?
In 1 Samuel chapter 15, Samuel anoints Saul as king over Israel. And things start off well, but Saul does not follow the instructions of the Lord regarding destroying everything from wicked cities.
1Sa 15:3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
But Saul does not do this....
1Sa 15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,
11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.
Now normally if one does great sinning, one can package the sinning unto a sin-offering, but for some reason, Saul doesn't do this properly (Saul justifies his action by exalting self, and does not humbly afflict his soul from wong doing) and so the LORD cannot atone Saul's sin-offering...
This is why the Holy Spirit of Yahweh ( a functional flow of power from GOD unto salvation) left Saul and a dysfunctional spirit (administrated by the Holy Spirit) replaced Saul instead. We see cause and effect here, what one sows, one reaps. When one makes a sin-offering unto Jesus our sin-bearer, our offering must come with mourning, humility and self crucified.
