Q65: 72. "In Remembrance of Me" Show the Desire of Ages is inspired.. (1) Standing between two economies The Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread: and when He had given thanks,He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance ofMe. After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the newtestament in My blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as ye eatthis bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till He come." 1 Cor. 11:23-26.Christ was standing at the point of transition between two economies and their two great festivals. He,the spotless Lamb of God, was about to present Himself as a sin offering, that He would thus bring toan end the system of types and ceremonies that for four thousand years had pointed to His death. As Heate the Passover with His disciples, He instituted in its place the service that was to be the memorial ofHis great sacrifice. The national festival of the Jews was to pass away forever. The service whichChrist established was to be observed by His followers in all lands and through all ages. When a person stands, one leg stands and the other leg stands, and thus the legs have footings in two different places. The Hebrew word "passover" actually means "hopping" when one leg is standing upon one place, hops over to the other leg standing on another place. The words Jesus uses in English "Christ was standing" reflects this Hebrew meaning, and this is recorded in the SOP. Standing and sitting are important concepts in Scripture, as well as standing upon two different places at the same time. There is no end to the study of the Holy Writings. Shalom The Spirit of Prophecy says ...The national festival of the Jews was to pass away forever. Does this mean all OT ways of doing the love feasts are abolished? No, like brand new wine in brand new wine skins, we have to look at things in new settings. The process of making grape juice is the same, only the settings of time and place has changed. Study what the love feasts were for. Study the spiritual and literal significance of the love feasts. Practice them as did the early Church Assemblies in Acts. (2) Lord's communion points forward The Communion service points to Christ's second coming. It was designed to keep this hope vivid inthe minds of the disciples. Whenever they met together to commemorate His death, they recounted how"He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is My bloodof the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will notdrink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father'skingdom." In their tribulation they found comfort in the hope of their Lord's return. Unspeakablyprecious to them was the thought, "As often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show theLord's death till He come." 1 Cor. 11:26 If the Lord's communion service points forward to another event by Jesus, doesn't this make the communion service we partake in, point forward to another time with Jesus? And so w e practice the Lord's feast because it points forward to the Wedding Feast? And why doesn't Jesus partake in wine until the wedding feast? Eze 44:21 Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.(KJV) Because Jesus enters into the sanctuary in heaven as a High Priest, He does not drink wine...thus this proves Jesus is our High Priest and there is a real literal sanctuary in heaven. (3) Our eternal gratitude Our Lord has said, "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life inyou. . . . For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed." John 6:53-55. This is true of ourphysical nature. To the death of Christ we owe even this earthly life. The bread we eat is the purchaseof His broken body. The water we drink is bought by His spilled blood. Never one, saint or sinner, eatshis daily food, but he is nourished by the body and the blood of Christ. The cross of Calvary is stampedon every loaf. It is reflected in every water spring. All this Christ has taught in appointing the emblemsof His great sacrifice. The light shining from that Communion service in the upper chamber makessacred the provisions for our daily life. The family board becomes as the table of the Lord, and everymeal a sacrament. Our gratitude to Jesus must be eternal, as grateful every day we live in Jesus on earth now, living because He lives in us, now and forever more.A creature living depends upon the breath of life given him, how much more grateful are we, redeemed twice by our Lord. Yeshua 1:2 The beginning of the word of the Father-LORD by Yeshua. And the Father-LORD said to Yeshua, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Father-LORD. Why is the Hebrew word YHWH a reference to both the Father and Yeshua, His Son Jesus? Because the poetry similes demand words that have dual meanings: Yeshua 1:2 The beginning of the word of the LORD-Jesus by Hosea. And the LORD-Jesus said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD-Jesus. The whole book of Hosea is a simile of the Father and Jesus, with Jesus marrying us sinners, because Jesus originally created mankind as our Maker. Ho 3:2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley: And so Jesus buys us sinners with His own blood, and says to those who buys back:- Ho 3:3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee. And so we are ever forever grateful to Jesus first because He created us, and second because He rescued us from a broken relationship with GOD. Jesus is our Creator and our Saviour. We are ever grateful for eternity. And our ongoing living depends upon Him. The next chapter of Desire of Ages..we look at "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled" |
