Steps To Christ, repentance

Q:3 The Steps of Christ

Show 'Steps To Christ' is inspired.

Chapter 3: Repentance

Ellen p 23: "How shall a man be just with God? How shall the sinner be made righteous? It is only through Christ that we can be brought into harmony with God, with holiness; but how are we to come to Christ? Many are asking the same question as did the multitude on the Day of Pentecost, when, convicted of sin, they cried out, What shall we do? The first word of Peters answer was, Repent. Acts 2:37, 38. At another time, shortly after, he said, Repent, ... and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out. Acts 3:19.

Repentance includes sorrow for sin and a turning away from it."

Notice the two processes of repentance here, sorrow and turning.

For more: see Repentance using Ancient Hebrew pictographs, which show "sorrow" for our missing and "turning" to Jesus.

Yashua 3:1 Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:

Notice the two process of salvation presented by Jesus in His book of salvation.

  • Go love her again..
  • So I bought her..

    or

  • Go love you again..
  • So I bought you..

There is a wonderful song, Jesus made us and put us on the water with His cords of love tied us together. But the tides of strive broke the cord and the boat drifted away. Eventually the boat is for sale in the Egyptian store. And so the boy Jesus, buys the boat and loves the boat twice more, once because I made you and once because I bought you, "now your mine", with cords of love that can never be broken.

If you look at the original tongue Jesus spoke to mankind and mankind wrote as moved by the Holy Spirit, we see wonderful beauty in the words behind the process of repentance.

The Hebrew word "nacham" is used first for Noah because God wanted to comfort the boat lost adrift on the tides of strive, and so engineered comfort as a boat on a gigantic scale, large enough to hold hundreds and thousands of people.

But most people refused to be comforted, so they drowned in God's gigantic tears.

If you show sorrow for your missing, you offer comfort to the one you wronged, so repentance begins with relationships being restored, one shows sorrow so the other feels comfort. One never sins on your own. Missing is about breaking relationships. And the second part of the process of repentance is the turning back to the relationship you want to remain with. To return home to that person in relationship.

A home is not so much a place, but a family community of relationships.

Ac 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Notice how the New Testament aligns with Jesus in His Book of Salvation:

    Go and love you again

    So I bought you.

The sinner is depicted as a woman or wife, running away from Jesus, her husband, after He created and formed her to be a life long partner in Eden. But she or we, ran after other lovers, and developed a fallen nature, bringing "self-love" into the scene, where tongues speak using our "Baal Master Powers of Self". Such dysfuction never existed in the original design Jesus made. So we end up as a slave to our missing, auctioned on a world stage, sold to buyers who mock us in our depravity.

Jesus comes along and buys us with His own blood, and exchanges life for life, and living for living. S o we are bought with an eternal price, an infinite sacrifice.

Zec 13:6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.(KJV)

When we see the wounds on the body of heaven, slain for our missing, we will come to understand the significance of the eternal infinite sacrifice of Christ for buying us from the auction market of Satan. Such an act cost Jesus dearly, He laid down His living for you, so you can be found living.

Notice the Ellen White "Steps to Christ" writes repentance from the sinners view.

Notice the Hosea "Steps to Christ" writes repentance from the Father's view.

Both show the science of salvation in similar views, only writing them from different sides of relationship.

Yashua 3:4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:

5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter "end" days. (KJV)

Israel, a simile of the world of followers of GOD, lose a temple sanctuary on earth, for the temple sactuary in heaven is soon to be set up in the "latter days" or "end of time days".

Thus we need to go to special writings in Jesus latter rain, the book of Hebrews, is a good place to find the Science of Salvation there.

Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days "end days" spoken unto us by his Son,...

Here is the same language, referencing the prophecy in Jesus 3:4, with Jesus end of time writings given to Paul to write for us, concerning the temple sanctuary in heaven restored by Jesus, regarding His science of salvation.

Ellen p 24: The confession was forced from his guilty soul by an awful sense of condemnation and a fearful looking for of judgment.

Ellen writes of Judas, Pharoah, Esau and Baalim, who were fearful from guilt's consequences, rather than wanting a sincere desire to return to a divine relationship with GOD. Thus these examples did not truly restore their relationship with GOD.

Heb 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we,..

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,..

    8 Harden not your hearts,..

Jesus wants to be the high priest of your soul or home, where you live with the Holy Spirit abiding in you as a holy temple unto GOD. But you need to hear the voice of GOD via your conscience, and obey the calling of Jesus, his voice via the Holy Spirit who speaks to us. Do not harden your hearts.. Do not drown out the still small voice with technological sounds, such as rock music, so your heart is filled with Satanic Sounds, instead of Special Spirit Sounds from Jesus.

Ellen p 24: But when the heart yields to the influence of the Spirit of God, the conscience will be quickened,...

Ellen white is messaging the science of salvation from Jesus using the same theme, the Holy Spirit quickens us via our conscience. The word "quicken" is from the Hebrew word "chayah".

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth;...

Ro 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Notice in the oldest Hebrew writings, a special message regarding "quicken"

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.(KJV)

    Reader can't see the Hebrew?

Job 33:4 The "holy wind" administrated by a "Divine Strong Authority" hath made me,

  • and the breath of the Shadday quickeneth me. (Ancient Hebrew)

The "Holy Spirit" is a "special wind" that is administrated by the Shadday, who administrates the "Breath of Life" in us, and if we choose Jesus, the "Breath of Salvation".

Just as the Most High has the new name "Father" and an old name "Eloah"; so the Holy Spirit has this new name, and Shadday is the old name.

This same Hebrew word "chayah" is given to the woman by Adam, so He called her "Chayah" for she was the "mother of living" (Gen 3:20)

Heb 3:18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not "supported not" ?

19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief "non-support".(KJV)

The Scriptures say the reason why some did not repent, and turn to Jesus is because they:-

  • Did not hear the still small voice..

  • Did not support GOD..

This is not explained further in Hosea 3 or Hebrews 3, so let's see the details in Ellen Whites "Steps to Christ on repentance"

Ellen p 26: Just here is a point on which many may err, and hence they fail of receiving the help that Christ desires to give them. They think that they cannot come to Christ unless they first repent, and that repentance prepares for the forgiveness of their sins. It is true that repentance does precede the forgiveness of sins; for it is only the broken and contrite heart that will feel the need of a Saviour. But must the sinner wait till he has repented before he can come to Jesus? Is repentance to be made an obstacle between the sinner and the Saviour?

The Bible does not teach that the sinner must repent before he can heed the invitation of Christ, Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. It is the virtue that goes forth from Christ, that leads to genuine repentance.

The Author finds the messages here are written in "child like faith for babes"; for a reason, so "beginners coming to Jesus" will understand. The simple language is similar to the Author's writings in the latter rain revival of Jesus, via the Holy Spirit.

Read these messages here, Spiritual Revival ; unedited and unchanged in simple child like faith as a babe:

With more maturity and experience, the Author could rewrite Spiritual Revival better, but that would spoil the child like words of understanding.

So the Author reads Ellen White messages of what "unbelief" means, or "lack of support" means, when people fail to experience the repentance gifts of Jesus.

Notice the words of the SOP:

"they fail of receiving the support that Christ desires to support them. "

Here we see "faith" as "support" showing us what the "child like messages" are telling us.

Ellen p 27: An influence of which they are unconscious works upon the soul, and the conscience is quickened, and the outward life is amended. And as Christ draws them to look upon His cross, to behold Him whom their sins have pierced, the commandment comes home to the conscience. The wickedness of their life, the deep-seated sin of the soul, is revealed to them. They begin to comprehend something of the righteousness of Christ, and exclaim, What is sin, that it should require such a sacrifice for the redemption of its victim?

    The sinner may resist this love, may refuse to be drawn to Christ; but if he does not resist he will be drawn to Jesus;

Notice the words of the SOP: "when you support Jesus, the conscience is quickened vi a the Holy Spirit, and the outward life amended immediately".

The attitude of feelings or emotions that drive this support, is the deep love you sense from Jesus, who died for you.

Ellen p 28: Ask Him to give you repentance, to reveal Christ to you in Hisinfinite love, in His perfect purity.

When you ask Jesus, you speak prayers to Jesus, saying His words personified, so they germinate rapidly in your heart, amending the outward life. This is a simple child like way we "support Jesus".

Ellen p 29: The sinners acts of disloyalty in making void the law of God, are exposed to his sight, and his spirit is stricken and afflicted under the searching influence of the Spirit of God. He loathes himself as he views the pure, spotless character of Christ.

Here Ellen White writes of our convictions when we do missing every day, our tongue speaks using human powers, we come aware of our missing Jesus power, we feel the loss of purity because Jesus is pure. The dialogue of communication is active in our conscience, the medium of communication through Jesus, where Jesus and the Holy Spirit talk to us, and we to GOD.

Ellen p 30: Paul says that as touching the righteousness which is in the lawas far as outward acts were concernedhe was blameless (Philippians 3:6); but when the spiritual character of the law was discerned, he saw himself a sinner. Judged by the letter of the law as men apply it to the outward life, he had abstained from sin; but when he looked into the depths of its holy precepts, and saw himself as God saw him, he bowed in humiliation and confessed his guilt. He says, I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. Romans 7:9. When he saw the spiritual nature of the law, sin appeared in its true hideousness, and his self-esteem was gone.

Missing Jesus powers every day, makes outward obedience nothing. Pious people obeying the ten commandments does not offer us divine powers. Only through claiming the promises of Jesus daily on our lips, can our tongue change to a new power. From Baal master powers of self on our tongue, to Jesus as a master of our tongue.

Ellen p 30: God does not regard all sins as of equal magnitude; there aredegrees of guilt in His estimation, as well as in that of man; buthowever trifling this or that wrong act may seem in the eyes ofmen, no sin is small in the sight of God.

..pride, selfishness, and covetousness too often gounrebuked. But these are sins that are especially offensive to God;..

Outward sins are sometimes removed, but the inward sins stem really from a broken relationship.Pride refuses a helping hand in relationship, self wants to do things on one's own, something technically impossible to do, for all powers come from relationship, even if you despise God allowing you "borrowed living" for a moment, and evil desire of materialism is especially offensive to God. Relationships are relational and community orientated, founded on providing and responding, giving and receiving.

Ellen p 31: We can do nothing of ourselves. We must come to Christ just as weare.

We begin supporting Jesus, just as we are, warts and all. Only Jesus whom we support will support us with His powers to overcome our faults and cause self powers to die.

Ellen p 31: The impenitent sometimes excuse themselves by saying of professed Christians, I am as good as they are. They are no more self-denying, sober, or circumspect in their conduct than I am. They love pleasure and self-indulgence as well as I do. Thus they make the faults of others an excuse for their own neglect of duty. But the sins and defects of others do not excuse anyone, for the Lord has not given us an erring hu man pattern. The spotless Son of God has been given as our example, and those who complain of the wrong course of professed Christians are the ones who should show better lives and nobler examples. If they have so high a conception of what a Christian should be, is not their own sin so much the greater? They know what is right, and yet refuse to do it.

Do not judge your flow of love from Jesus, by looking at others. You are unique and special, your flow of Jesus is also unique. All trees of the Lord of Trees grow in simile ways, but not identical ways. Why there are over 300 different ways a "gum tree" grows , we are not the same. Our personalities of growing is different, though we all suppport Jesus with His science of salvation along similar lines. All trees grow, and drink water and reach for Sonlight and make fruits of the Father, via the Holy Spirit.

Ellen p 32: Beware of procrastination. Do not put off the work of forsaking your sins and seeking purity of heart through Jesus. Here is where thousands upon thousands have erred to their eternal loss. I will not here dwell upon the shortness and uncertainty of life; but there is a terrible dangera danger not sufficiently understoodin delaying to yield to the pleading voice of Gods Holy Spirit, in choosing to live in sin; for such this delay really is.

Beware of putting off supporting Jesus. It's too hard...too deep...too much effort... It is easy to drown out the still small voice of the Holy Spirit in our conscience. Beware Satan too talks via your conscience as much as the Holy Spirit might. Test the spirits and see what manner of spirit empowers you. By your fruits ye will know the Spirit of GOD.

Ellen p 32: Age after age there has gone up from our earth a continual cry of mourning, and the whole creation groaneth and travaileth together in pain as a consequence of mans disobedience.

When Adam did missing, all the Designed Design by our Designer went into a Downhill Direction. This is why our fallen flesh cannot fathom God's power, because it has many resistors to God's electrical powers, and we would be burned up in His presence. What we need is a change of electrical power, which comes from Jesus, who came down to earth with the same fallen nature we are born with but overcome the groaning within His body for us. It was an infinite risk to do such a thing, for Satan could tempt Christ in this condition, just as easily as Satan trips us up, he failed to cause Jesus to miss His Father's powers even once. How is this possible? We need to learn the "support" one can claim via the science of salvation, to continually walk in the words of the Father, and now the personified words of Christ, our redeemer and friend.

Ellen p 32: Let us not regard sin as a trivial thing.

Every act of transgression, every neglect or rejection of the grace of Christ, is reacting upon yourself; it is hardening the heart, depraving the will, benumbing the understanding, and not only making you less inclined to yield, but less capable of yielding, to the tender pleading of Gods Holy Spirit.

Missing daily in our relationship to Jesus, is something we must strive to overcome.Plead with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, to learn the words we pray for His power, walk in His character and speak His words on our tongue.

Ellen p 33: Many are quieting a troubled conscience with the thought that they can change a course of evil when they choose; that they can trifle with the invitations of mercy, and yet be again and again impressed. They think that after doing despite to the Spirit of grace, after casting their influence on the side of Satan, in a moment of terrible extremity they can change their course. But this is not so easily done.

When you miss often with pet sins, seek the Words Jesus promises to offer you power and pray them in your mind. Hope for a flow of wonders through you, miracles of His grace to empower you immediately. Do not play with Jesus, or play with your pet sins, ask for which words promise power, and speak them in Jesus Name. Do not belittle the promises, or say a little pet missing does not matter. Do not trifle with God.

Ellen p 34: Christ is ready to set us free from sin, but He does not force the will; and if by persistent transgression the will itself is wholly bent on evil, and we do not desire to be set free, if we will not accept His grace, what more can He do?

When you support Jesus, your will has chosen to do His will, but if you choose not to support Jesus, your fallen nature will lead you to do further missing. We have the will to speak words that support Jesus, and thus overcome, or we don't speak words of support, and thus do our pet sinning. Are you willing to support Jesus, so He can support you back? Missing is really the consequence of you failing to support Jesus, what Scriptures term as unbelief.

For example, I see dysfunctional food, a chocolate mud cake, of man-made manufactured madness, laced with GMO oil and cancer cancering causing sugar. But if my mind fails to pray a quick prayer of Promised Power such as "keep my eye single", or "Lord lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from all things dysfunctional", my fallen flesh will desire the food, and only after eating it, does my conscience speak about my missing. If you do not "ask", Jesus cannot "empower you". But other times when I do ask, the powers of victory overcome my weakened flesh, and I eat apples instead, from God's goodness garden.

Ellen p 35: Many accept an intellectual religion, a form of godliness, when the heart is not cleansed. Let it be your prayer, Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10. Deal truly with your own soul. Be as earnest, as persistent, as you would be if your mortal life were at stake. This is a matter to be settled between God and your own soul, settled for eternity. A supposed hope, and nothing more, will prove your ruin.

Do not support Jesus with Prayer Promises of Power, and than fail to follow hopeful flow with a fearful-flow of Jesus through you. This is like the son who says he will go to the vineyard, but doesn't go. Or the son who is missing daily, later feels sorrow for his missing, comforts Jesus by returning to Him, and supports Jesus by saying I will go and work in your vineyard. Which son did the true supporting of the Saviour? (Matthew 21:28-31)

Ellen p 35: Study Gods word prayerfully. That word presents before you, in the law of God and the life of Christ, the great principles of holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14. It convinces of sin; it plainly reveals the way of salvation. Give heed to it as the voice of God speaking to your soul.

Here Ellen White uses other aspects of "support" apart from "prayer" and "Asking", also that of "studying the Words of Jesus".

Such words are the "voice of GOD speaking to your soul".

Often when we speak words-personified in our minds as prayer promises of Jesus, the flow of power is immediate and useful to overcome our temptations. At other times the voice of God that speaks to us are His words we read in Scripture. This too is an act of supporting Jesus. Jesus does not always talk to us a common friend does using Baal master powers of self with much babbling, often the words we hear are Scripture words, showing that support comes in various ways.

We can also support Jesus but what we see in His creation, for there are many similes in Nature that support Jesus and our spiritual lessons we learn from knowing those lessons in Nature.

For example the birds seek the food, from the great provider, the y support their Creator with singing praise. We could learn a lot from His Creation.

Ellen p 36: When Satan comes to tell you that you are a great sinner, look up to your Redeemer and talk of His merits.

It is when we most fully comprehend the love of God that we best realize the sinfulness of sin. When we see the length of the chain that was let down for us, when we understand something of the infinite sacrifice that Christ has made in our behalf, the heart is melted with tenderness and contrition.

"the length of the chain that was let down for us" not sure where in Scripture this theme comes from?

In EGW's day the DNA was not invented as a term, this is perhaps the chain she is referring to, that was let down from heaven, able to cope with all the dysfunctional woes of living to a point, until we reach out for our Designers Design of Deliverance, that comes renewed by the Holy Spirit every day, the creative actions of making our characters renewed more and more like Jesus. (Prayer 51: 10-12)

So Jesus empowers a renewed Design in you, the propensities are switched off one by one (Exodus 23: 29,30); the new master over-rules the old master of self, and through a process of surrender, doing the science of salvation daily, you become renewed daily by Jesus, and you walk the DNA stairway to heaven in Jesus, that DNA ladder, like a chain; that was let down from heaven, so we can walk upwards to Jesus, into heaven's glory fully restored. And while this chain contains trillions of words of information stored in it, we need not get bogged down about it's complexity, but simply support Jesus daily, allowing Him to do in us, His Design.

So ends the SOP treatment detailing "support and non-support" with repentance.

The Father tells His Son who after making us and seeing us wander away, "Go love them again".

So Jesus comes down to earth, and buys the wanders back to Him, with infinite sacrifice that scars Jesus hands and body for eternity.

What is our response to this love? Such a wonderful gift from Jesus? Do we want to walk daily supporting His words, so His powers flow through us daily?

Pr 16:9 A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

We can walk down the divine road, as our hearts desire, supporting Jesus with any of thousands of Prayer Promises of Power, and Jesus will direct those steps we take. You do not become enslaved to someone telling you what to do, you do as you desire only that Jesus powers get you there every step of the way. That's what support means. It is living truly free. Free of materialism that offers no happiness, and walking with joy in Jesus.

The next chapter of Steps To Christ, is about confession.
