But if this thing be true (emeth)..
truth used in a secular way to ascertain if a report is true..
(12) Jos 2:12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD , since I have shewed you kindness , that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house , and give me a true (emeth) token :
.. and give me a true (emeth) token :..
truth is a simile of kindness when possessed...
(13) Jos 2:14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours , if ye utter not this our business . And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land , that we will deal kindly and truly (emeth) with thee.
..the LORD hath given us the land , that we will deal kindly and truthfully (emeth) with thee.
Here we see YHWH is association with truth, and giving us truth, when we have a relationship with YHWH..
(14) Jos 24:14 Now therefore fear the LORD , and serve him in sincerity and in truth (emeth) : and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood , and in Egypt ; and serve ye the LORD .
Now therefore fear the LORD , and serve him in sincerity and in truth (emeth) : ..
If YHWH has the character of truth,, as shown in Exodus 34:6, it seems the Holy Spirit might be the agency
for carrying this power for YHWH, rather than YHWH placing this power alone in His redeemed...
This might make sense for Exodus 34:6 and the poetry symbol of truth being associated with the Holy Spirit.
A relationship is suggested here, the YHWH and the Spirit of Truth.
(15) Jg 9:15 And the bramble said unto the trees , If in truth (emeth) ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow : and if not, let fire come out of the bramble , and devour the cedars of Lebanon .
And the bramble said unto the trees , If in truth (emeth) ye anoint ..
Here is another poetry symbol, trees are symbols of Christians, living with GOD...
(16) Jg 9:16 Now therefore, if ye have done truly (emeth) and sincerely , in that ye have made Abimelech king , and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house , and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands ;
.. if ye have done truthfully (emeth) and sincerely..
using truth as a method of making dealings more secure..
(17) Jg 9:19 If ye then have dealt truly (emeth) and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day , then rejoice ye in Abimelech , and let him also rejoice in you:
If ye then have dealt truthfully (emeth) and sincerely..
using truth to assure things are done well and correct..
(18) 1Sa 12:24 Only fear the LORD , and serve him in truth (emeth) with all your heart : for consider how great things he hath done for you.
Only fear the LORD , and serve him in truth (emeth)..
Can we fear and serve YHWH alone ? Does not Scripture say one cannot stand under GOD and NOT perish..?
Ex 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
Thus it is fitting that we fear YHWH while protected by the Spirit of truth, YHWH's truth, as channelled by the Holy Spirit, makes perfect sense here in this verse.
And other early examples before this study. As we proceed through the study, Scripture should be in harmony, and make sense of the various functions of GOD.
(19) 2Sa 2:6 And now the LORD shew kindness and truth (emeth) unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness , because ye have done this thing .
And now the LORD shew kindness and truth (emeth) unto you:
So YHWH's truth, a quality of His love, is channelled via the Holy Spirit, a symbol of truth...
We see this hypothesis verified in this verse.
(20) 2Sa 7:28 And now, O Lord GOD , thou art that God , and thy words be true (emeth) , and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant :
.. And now, O Lord (Adonay) GOD (YHWH) , thou art that God (Elohiym) , and thy words be truth (emeth)..
The first time we see "truth" associated with Elohiym, the Family of GOD.
Notice YHWH is associated with Adonay also. The whole array of heavenly powers through the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit is promised to this servant.
