Q16: What is GOD like?
One should not talk about GOD, or even try to. However Scripture tells us two things about GOD. We know GOD is all powerful, all knowing and everywhere in all places. Such things like this is already beyond our thinking. We also know GOD is love, and the source of all love.
1John 4:8 .. God is love. 1John 1:5.. God is light.. John 4:24 God is Spirit: GOD is not subject to time, space or matter....Elohyim or God is none of these things...
Scripture says Elohiym or GOD is like "ruwach" which means "wind".Thus the energy flow of GOD is administrated by the Holy Spirit..
The Holy Spirit functions as a 'special wind'. Wind is something you cannot see. The energy called wind moves in the air.Science calls such things where 'something is carried by something', a medium. And Nicodemus asks "How can this be?"
Indeed this 'special wind' is a mystery.
Science poorly understands energy. Where does energy come from? What is energy? Science says energy cannot be created or destroyed. Einstein's famous equation E=mc2, saying mass can release huge amounts of energy, but this equation does not tell us where energy comes from or what energy is, only where mass comes from.Nobody really knows. Energy is a mystery.
The Holy Spirit is the same "stuff" the Father is.... Thus the Holy Spirit and the Father are composed of "energy like stuff", that is not of matter, time or space.
This verse says the same thing...but this is not saying the Father is the Holy Spirit. The verse is saying the Father functions or has the same shape of power as the Holy Spirit.
Consider this:- Light is only made manifest in the presence of matter, or atomic structures. Otherwise light is invisible and never perceived. When light strikes an object of atomic structure, the changes to light allow humans to perceive the light's presence, and the atomic structures presence. Sound is only heard in the presence of atomic structures, in a vacuum sound could never be perceived.Only when media is present do we perceive sounds.
Wind energy requires a media of air in order to perceive its effects on matter. Without atomic structures of air we would not perceive its presence.
These examples show the heavenly power of Elohiym, is not perceived unless in the presence of matter, which automatically brings about time and space. This is the mystery that Scripture is presenting here in these verses.
This is why humans are a medium of heavenly powers. Others perceive GOD through us...and this is why Satan loves to spoil human witnesses of GOD's power.
This is why the Holy Spirit functions as a medium so humans can perceive the presence of heavenly powers. But such things are a profound mystery....
Energy is something science understands poorly, it is not subject to time, space or matter....One cannot say GOD is energy. Perhaps GOD is a simile of energy. Perhaps GOD is a simile of light. For Scripture onlytries to describe things in terms and symbols humans understand.
So when you find members of the Godhead speaking to us humans, they do so in a world subject to our own understanding...for Scripture says we see Elohyim darkly...
...through earth filters and earth objects.... in reality Elohyim is far beyond all of earth objects of time space and matter.... Hebrew is a language of action, functional descriptors, not static objects or naming things...that is a Greek idea.... hence my faith sees GOD in three functional descriptors of action. The members of the Godhead do certain functions, so our earth can exist and manifest itself... for example, energy can exist in several forms and functions, such as light, heat and electro-gravity....
Ezekiel describes a picture of Elohyim as metal, energy and wheels within wheels... ..and none of that involves time....in fact there are only time words since earth creation, no Hebrew words speak of things before Creation... "owlam" for example means from Creation moving forwards over the horizon...
So I would caution making GOD fit into some model we earthlings want....Scripture does not say much about such things....
God bless our journeys of faith: "our understanding of things not seen". Shalom
