God provided for mankind two trees in the Garden of Eden as a standard of his love. This was a simple sign of ongoing relationship to God. Notice the changes :-
Ge 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The missing the mark was to eat fruit from the wrong tree. To see the affects of these changes we need to study Pauls New Testament writings, where he describes missing the mark. The medium that enabled us to see immediately the affect of missing the mark was the Holy Spirit which shrank about them, causing the solid clothing of colours of the Holy Spirit to shrink exposing their nakedness.
Before Adam sinned, Adam was one of the Sons of God on unfallen worlds. He would have been privileged to come to special meetings with God like the other unfallen beings of other worlds mentioned in Job.
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
But when Adam fell there was an immediate change in the rulership of planet earth.
In Romans 5:16 the judgment (of God) was by one to condemnation.
This word condemnation is a Greek word katakrima mentioned only three times, the first occasion here. Condemnation is a judicial term meaning the Father passed judgment over planet earth and Adam was no longer prince of his kingdom.
In Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation;...
We see the second use of this term, showing that through the one act of Adam breaking his relationship to God, brought condemnation to all of mankind.
What did this condemnation do to all mankind ?
Ro 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
The next verse gives us the answer to what condemnation brought. In the poor translation in Romans 5:19 we have lost the meaning of condemnation entirely.
The translation should read
Ro 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were ruled sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be ruled righteous.
The Greek word kathistemi is also a judicial term and a primarily refers to the establishing of a relationship term. There will be many scholars who argue kathistemi does not mean to instigate the rule of something , but if you look at all verses that use this word you begin to see the meaning of the word in all other context and usage.
Of the 21 verses that use kathistemi, the majority if not all of them are referencing the idea to establish one to rule over another.
So when Adam sinned a change of relationship occurred. Satan became our ruler, and planet earth became his kingdom. Before Adams fall , Adam was the ruler of planet earth, and God was his superior ruler. While Acts 6:3 does not quite nicely says this, it does suggest the Holy Spirit can be a ruler over us on planet earth, but only if we choose to allow this. This becomes the plan of salvation, to choose which relationship you wish to be ruled by, God or Satan.
Adam's sinning changed ruler-ship of Earth. There is one last verse that uses condemnation in a most positive sense.
Ro 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
This suggests that if we have Jesus Christ in a saving relationship with Him, we have no condemnation from the Father, and this is because of the saving relationship we have in obedience to Christ.
Next we will consider how these two rulers, Jesus and Satan are made manifest on earth, through the medium. The Holy Spirit creates the medium affect.
