The study of bold, self, or indulgent people.

HYPOTHESIS: What does "`athaq" mean ?

INTRODUCTION: Here is another word for our studies in self indulgence. Let's study this one.

METHOD: Not many verses.

CONCLUSION: The word "`athaq" means "bold"

PICTURE:

 "bold" "strongs 6277" The pictograph means "The eye marked on the horizon"

PERSONAL APPLICATION: This word is a strong word. The eye lusts for what is on the horizon and is marked by things elsewhere other than what God has to offer. The person has a strong eye for things over yonder, a better house, a better job, a better salary, a better holiday. He keeps his eye over yonder marked for a better golfing average, a better tennis score, a better personal best. Such are the bold ones.

DISCUSSION:

( 1 ) 1Sa 2:3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly ; let not arrogancy "`athaq" come out of your mouth : for the LORD is a God of knowledge , and by him actions are weighed . {arrogancy: Heb. hard}

.. proudly let not boldness come from your mouth .. Bold people know it better than GOD, for out of their mouth flows what their eye seeks, and they know it better than God does.

( 2 ) Ps 31:18 Let the lying lips be put to silence ; which speak grievous "`athaq" things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous . {grievous...: Heb. a hard thing}

.. to silence which speak bold things .. The bold person speaks things to silence others.. "I have a better golfing average" "I have won a world record" "I have a higher salary" "I have won more trophies" "I have a better motor car" "I have a better house"

( 3 ) Ps 75:5 Lift not up your horn on high : speak not with a stiff "`athaq" neck .

.. high speak not with a bold neck ..

Speaking with a bold neck ? Such is the literal pictures of people with boldness. Watch their necks and the muscles of the neck as they speak, to indicate their boldness..
