God afflicts us to reduce our pride?

( 21 ) De 8:3 And he humbled "`anah" thee, and suffered thee to hunger , and fed thee with manna , which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know ; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only , but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live .

.. afflict .. part of God's salvation plan is affliction ..many might ask the question why is affliction a part of God's salvation methods ? To prevent exaltation. If things went too easily, we would rise in pride and forget Jesus.

Ho 13:6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; Jesus makes us happy but when they were filled, But as we get happy and their heart was exalted; we become proud therefore have they forgotten me. and forget Jesus

A good example of this is when you over fertilize a tree, happy tree Your get more leaves, symbol of pride And less fruit. a selfish tree

So affliction is a necessary part of salvation's methods to keep us mournful for Jesus. See studies on pride.
