Implications Feminine personality of the Holy Spirit

5. Spiritual implications Holy Spirit

.. heavenly parents..

So does this mean because we have heavenly parents we can pray like this? And prayer directly to the Holy Spirit as 'she'? Or even make references to a 'heavenly mother' ?

The short answer is No!

Hebrew culture dictates that in the presence of masculine and feminine, the masculine takes precedence.

So out of respect we reference our heavenly Father or "Provider" only as "He".

And Jesus, the Yasha of our Salvation.

And the Holy Spirit, who makes all this so.

There are places where the word "Holy Spirit" in Hebrew being feminine, is expressed at times with masculine terms. So the fuzzy translation in the New Testament in Greek is not all that bad. It only becomes bad when church traditions assume the Holy Spirit is a "he" whatever that term means?

Notice Psalm 91:1-4

  • Ps 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High "the Father" shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (SHADDAY) "the Holy Spirit".
  • 2 I will say of the LORD ( Jesus-YHWH) , He is my refuge and my fortress: my God (Elohiym) "all three strong authorities are listed , hence Elohiym";

  • in him will I trust.
  • 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
  • 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

WOW ! What a profound passage ! The passage lists all three members of Elohiym, the Father, the Shadday (Holy Spirit) and Jesus-YHWH. But notice the "he" is not clearly identified because the members within Elohiym are more than one Strong Authority. Thus the "he" could be the Father or His Son Jesus. But notice in verse four, he shall cover thee with his feathers...(a correct translation of the Hebrew, the wings of a bird)

So we are left with the theory of faith, does the Father or the Son have wings like a bird ?

Or do we have the Father, Holy Spirit, and the Son as a single harmonious one, so the passage is written as masculine, (as the Father is the Strong One in the Heavenly Home), despite the Holy Spirit, who has her wings like a bird; the passage is written we are covered by "his wings".

We are told the Holy Spirit comes in the New Testament like the wings of a dove...

But we are also told something else in the Old Testament.

Ho 4:19 The wind (ruwach) "the Holy Spirit" hath bound her up in her wings (kanaph) "coverings",

Notice the Holy Spirit is referenced as a "she" with "her wings" or "her coverings". This does NOT mean the Holy Spirit looks like an angel with wings...angels do not have wings... What they have is the function of moving like a bird does in the air...Hebrew is all about function not description.

Some of our church faith say the Almighty is another descriptor of the heavenly Father... And since most of the Holy Writings are poetry, the parallel lines of each verse do suggest the Holy Spirit functions as the Father, after all they are heavenly parents who function as one. But they are also clearly independent Beings, if we wish to separate them using Greek thinking, which is really disrespectful to Hebrew thinking.

In Hebrew a married family are literally one flesh, even though they are independent Beings sharing differences in love as a personality. This makes it strange for us today because Satan has fragmented the unity of families today.

  • Ps 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High "the Father" shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (SHADDAY) "the Holy Spirit".

The Hebrew word "shadow" tells us that there are TWO independent Beings here, not one as most church faith's claim.

A shadow is made by TWO objects, a light source is one object as an eternal Personal Being, and a solid object blocking the light as another eternal Personal Being. When this is done according to science, it makes two kinds of shadows, an (1) uncovered shadow (umbra) where light does not enter the shadow, and (2) a covered shadow (preumbra) where some light enters the shadow. These two shadows are caused by how close the two objects are to one another in relationship. The Holy Spirit would be close to the Father, as Hebrew parallel suggest each is a simile of the other, so the Holy Spirit carries the Father's light completely (not creating it's own light) thus the Holy Spirit can become a source of light, but is a watered down version of the Father's light, as a covered shadow is less brighter than standing in the full glory of the Father.

Being under the shadow of the Shadday is a good thing, it's cooler than the full glory of the Father directly, and the coolness is controlled by the relationship of the Holy Spirit to the Father.

  • Another function of the Holy Spirit, is a fire, a figure of something that purifes..

Eze 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind (ruwach) "the Holy Spirit" came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself,...

The Holy Spirit is like a fire as well as a wind, like the fire in the burning bush...

Eze 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty (Shadday), the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

Notice the Shadday is functioning with these angelic wings, or living creatures, as a part of them in function. Why a new name for the Holy Spirit ? We assume the Holy Spirit is a name. The Shadday is a functional descriptor, the one with "active hands pressing to the breast"..the Holy Spirit is also a functional descriptor, the special wind of GOD... If you have a look at GOD, there are many functional descriptors of each member of the Godhead...

The Most High is called by a new name in the NT as "Our Father".

The Shadday is called by a new name in the NT as the "Holy Spirit".

In the oldest book of the Bible, Job, the old name for the Father is Eloah. The old name for the Holy Spirit, is the Shadday. These members of Elohiym function as similes of heavenly parents.

A common function of the Holy Spirit or Shadday, around the throne is to announce the presence of the Holy One on the throne:-

Eze 1:26 .... and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

Notice the Shadday points us to the Being like the appearance of a man...

Eze 1:28 ... This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

And here we see YHWH, specifically Jesus-YHWH speaking as the Son of Man (a figure)...

Eze 2:1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

Ezekiel is termed a Son of Man, who becomes a figure of Jesus-YHWH, also a figure of the Son of Man... Jesus would become a real Son of Man when he came to earth, born of human flesh as we humans are...

Eze 2:2 And the spirit (ruwach) "Holy Spirit" entered into me...

Finally the Holy Spirit enters Ezekiel, in vision, to allow the Jesus-YHWH to talk to him.

Since we see things darkly one should not make bold remarks on making the nature of Elohiym any more known than what little we know about it. And this includes strange words that are not Hebrew, such as 'trinity'.

The Scriptures clearly tell us all we need to know, and nothing more is added.

So what darkly image do we have of ELOHIYM, the FAMILY of GOD ?

This is an earthly picture of a family, one cannot make one a simile of the Divine and do it justice.

The image is especially true in the New Testament times, now that Jesus Christ "continues the flow of love from GOD across the many generations"

Thus the Scriptures show us two new pictures of GOD:-

  • (1) heavenly family : Ephesians 2:15,16
  • (2) heavenly parents : Luke 1:35

Thus in the OT, there is no "family" concept of "Elohiym", but in the NT there is a "family" concept of "Elohiym". There was an eternal relationship change in Jesus, and this is why Jesus functions today as "human family models on earth do".

But really folks, such mysteries are too deep for us to think about:-

    Ps 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

  • it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit?

  • or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Ps 131:1 LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty:

  • neither do I exercise myself in great matters,
  • or in things too high for me.

2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself,

  • as a child that is weaned of his mother:
  • my soul is even as a weaned child.

3 Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever. ((KJV)

As Einstein once said, a mentor of mine...

  • "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."
  • "I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details."
  • "The important thing is not to stop questioning...."
  • "My religion consists of a humble admiration ..."
  • "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious... "

Final warning On the Internet, recently in the last few years, there is an increasing devotion to the Holy Spirit as a feminine goddess, or queen of heaven, or deity to be worshipped or prayed to directly. There is plenty of early documents "such as Thomas" and other early Jewish sources that hold to the idea the Holy Spirit is feminine. Sadly these writings are a distraction leading many to a wrong concept of the Holy Spirit.

Mt 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (KJV)

Beware of strange directions apart from Hebrew sola scriptoria. Satan is a cunning dealer of mixing truth and error. Shalom

On the next web we shall consider how each member of the FAMILY of GOD expresses love.
