Meaning of circumcision and hard headed person

( 1 ) Ge 35:16  And they journeyed from Bethel ; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath : and Rachel travailed , and she had hard "qashah" labour . {a little...: Heb. a little piece of ground}

.. travailed and she had hard labour .. A women in labour makes her neck become hard and stiff with pushing... A person in constipation on the toilet experiences a similar hardening of the neck as one strains to excrete faeces.

( 2 ) Ge 35:17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard "qashah" labour , that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

.. Ge 35:17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard ..

( 3 ) Ge 49:7 Cursed be their anger , for it was fierce ; and their wrath , for it was cruel "qashah": I will divide them in Jacob , and scatter them in Israel .

.. and their wrath for it was hard ..

( 4 ) Ex 7:3 And I will harden "qashah" Pharaoh's heart , and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt .

.. hard ..

( 5 ) Ex 13:15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly "qashah" let us go , that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt , both the firstborn of man , and the firstborn of beast : therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix , being males ; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem .

.. came to pass, when Pharaoh would harden .. The picture of harden is one here of attitude, to resist to be stubborn, all similes of the same idea.

( 6 ) De 1:17 Ye shall not respect persons in judgment ; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great ; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man ; for the judgment is God's : and the cause that is too hard "qashah" for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it. {respect...: Heb. acknowledge faces}

.. and the cause that is too hard ..

( 7 ) De 2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened "qashah" his spirit , and made his heart obstinate , that he might deliver him into thy hand , as appeareth this day .

.. for the LORD thy God hard ..

( 8 ) De 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart , and be no more stiffnecked "qashah".

.. heart and be no more hard .. Circumcision is not about the removal of skin from one's private part But about the change of attitude to one's stiff necked heart. When we read the literal physical symbols of the Bible and they are literal, and always literal, you have to find the spiritual or emotional or other meanings as well. The foreskin was a symbol of the hard attitudes of stubbornness. If the people were humbled of mind, God would never have introduced circumcision. But because they were stiffnecked of heart, the painful process of circumcision was introduced to remind them of their need to be humble of mind. Does this make sense ? Does the heart and the brain have foreskin membranes ? Yes they do. The heart lies in a membrane around itself. The brain does too.

This verse introduces cicumcision as a contrast poetry symbol to hardness.

"hard"  Strongs 7185

"circumcise"  Strongs 4135

"foreskin"  Strongs 6189

This means perhaps other related words can be contrasted to "harden"

a "wild donkey" is hardened Strongs 6167

"market traders who barter" are hardened Strongs 6148

people who are "fearful" are hardened Strongs 6206

people who have "riches" are hardened Strongs 6238

Thus all these pictures are symbols contrasted to "hard" or "stiff necked" people; people who are like wild donkeys or wild brumbies, cannot be easily tamed, people who are stock brokers and love their games of profit, women who wear fancy hair do to show their hardness of heart. Some men have fancy hair do too these days ! People who have riches are hard people, as are those who get headaches and stress out alot.

Notice a contrast to "hard" "heed" Strongs 7181. The concept of heed is to listen. Notice the concept of "hard" is NOT to listen or heed, but a person who goes beyond presses others as he or she pleases !!

( 9 ) De 15:18 It shall not seem hard "qashah" unto thee , when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years : and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest .

.. hard ..

( 10 ) 1Sa 5:7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said , The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore "qashah" upon us, and upon Dagon our god .

.. abide with us: for his hand is hard ..
