The eye looks for water..

( 21 ) Ge 22:4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes "`ayin", and saw the place afar off .

.. lifted up his eye ..

( 22 ) Ge 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes "`ayin", and looked , and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns : and Abraham went and took the ram , and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son .

( 23 ) Ge 23:11 Nay , my lord , hear me : the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence "`ayin" of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead .

( 24 ) Ge 23:18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence "`ayin" of the children of Heth , before all that went in at the gate of his city .

( 25 ) Ge 24:13 Behold, I stand here by the well "`ayin" of water ; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water :

( 26 ) Ge 24:16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon , a virgin , neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well "`ayin", and filled her pitcher , and came up . {very...: Heb. good of countenance}

.. her: and she went down to the eye and filled her pitcher .. Now in Hebrew we have what seems a words with broad meanings (1) One is the eye of a human (2) Another is the eye of the ground where water is...

Notice the word "ayin" does not really mean "eye" It means the "eye active over the people of nations"

So if your looking active out for water, or a well or a spring for the seed of nations, than this meaning is OK too.

( 27 ) Ge 24:29 � And Rebekah had a brother , and his name was Laban : and Laban ran out unto the man , unto the well "`ayin".

.. unto the man unto the eye ..

( 28 ) Ge 24:30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands , and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister , saying , Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man ; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well "`ayin".

.. by the camels at the eye ..

( 29 ) Ge 24:42 And I came this day unto the well "`ayin", and said , O LORD God of my master Abraham , if now thou do prosper my way which I go :

.. And I came this day unto the eye .. Perhaps the fountain was covered in rock ledges and when removed looked like an eye also, from which water was drawn..

( 30 ) Ge 24:43 Behold, I stand by the well "`ayin" of water ; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me , I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink ;

..Behold, I stand by the eye of water ..
