ordinary wisdom and divine wisdom

(111) Ec 7:12 For wisdom (chokmah) is a defence , and money is a defence : but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom (chokmah) giveth life to them that have it.

For wisdom (chokmah) is

(112) Ec 7:19 Wisdom (chokmah) strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city .

(113) Ec 7:23 � All this have I proved by wisdom (chokmah) : I said , I will be wise ; but it was far from me.

(114) Ec 7:25 I applied mine heart to know , and to search , and to seek out wisdom (chokmah) , and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly , even of foolishness and madness :

(115) Ec 8:1 � Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing ? a man's wisdom (chokmah) maketh his face to shine , and the boldness of his face shall be changed .

Can man really have his own wisdom? There are two different Hebrew word listed in the verse:

  • "chakam" is the ordinary wise man

  • "chokmah" is the divine empowered man

    So man can be wise in his own eyes, but this pales to nothing compared to divine wisdom coming from GOD via the Holy Spirit.

    (116) Ec 8:16 When I applied mine heart to know wisdom (chokmah) , and to see the business that is done upon the earth : nor night seeth sleep with his eyes :)

    I applied mine heart to know wisdom (chokmah) ..

    (117) Ec 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do , do it with thy might ; for there is no work , nor device , nor knowledge , nor wisdom (chokmah) , in the grave , whither thou goest .

    (118) Ec 9:13 � This wisdom (chokmah) have I seen also under the sun , and it seemed great unto me:

    (119) Ec 9:15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man , and he by his wisdom (chokmah) delivered the city ; yet no man remembered that same poor man .

    (120) Ec 9:16 Then said I, Wisdom (chokmah) is better than strength : nevertheless the poor man's wisdom (chokmah) is despised , and his words are not heard .
