Jesus rock, Samson, Gideon

(1) Nu 20:8 Take the rod , and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother , and speak ye unto the rock (cela`) before their eyes ; and it shall give forth his water , and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock (cela`) : so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink .

and speak ye unto the "Jesus rock" (cela`) before their eyes...

In a fit of anger Moses did not speak to the Jesus rock but smote it twice. It is said that Jesus was flogged twice by the soldiers of Rome before he was hung on the cross.

(2) Nu 20:10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock (cela`) , and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels ; must we fetch you water out of this rock (cela`) ?

And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the "Jesus" rock (cela`) ..

(3) Nu 20:11 And Moses lifted up his hand , and with his rod he smote the rock (cela`) twice : and the water came out abundantly , and the congregation drank , and their beasts also.

And Moses lifted up his hand , and with his rod he smote the rock (cela`) twice :

This single act of unfaithfulness on Moses behalf, cost His Saviour dearly later upon the earth..

(4) Nu 24:21 And he looked on the Kenites , and took up his parable , and said , Strong is thy dwellingplace , and thou puttest thy nest in a rock (cela`) .

and took up his parable , and said , Strong is thy dwellingplace , and thou puttest thy nest in a rock (cela`) .

Not sure what the parable implies, but it is interesting Jesus the cela Rock also spoke or wrote parables in the Old Testament too.

(5) De 32:13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth , that he might eat the increase of the fields ; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock (cela`) , and oil out of the flinty rock ;

and he made him to suck honey out of the rock (cela`) , and oil out of the "tsuwr" flinty rock.

It is interesting here that both symbolic rocks come together, including the oil, which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Thus we have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as poetry pictures in this verse.

(6) Jg 1:36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim , from the rock (cela`) , and upward .

from the rock (cela`)

A reference to cliff or crag rock face..

(7) Jg 6:20 And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes , and lay them upon this rock (cela`) , and pour out the broth . And he did so.

and lay them upon this rock (cela`) ,

In the next verse, 21, the "tsuwr" rock rises fire and upon the "cela" rock burns the offering. Again we see the symbol of the Father and the Son both working together in this symbol of the sacrifice made by Gideon to the messenger of Yahweh, who is Jesus the ambassador to His Father.

  • Jg 6:20 And the messenger of Elohim (malak Elohim) said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes , and lay them upon this rock (cela`) , and pour out the broth . And he did so.
  • Jg 6:21 Then the messenger-Yahweh (malak YHWH) put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the messenger-Yahweh (malak YHWH) departed out of his sight.

Notice the way both rock symbols literally work together, spiritually speaking, but literally two Beings are present.

    (8) Jg 15:8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter : and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock (cela`) Etam .

..and dwelt in the top of the rock (cela`) Etam .

In reference a high cliff or craggy rock face..

    (9) Jg 15:11 Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock (cela`) Etam , and said to Samson , Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.

Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock (cela`) Etam ,

In reference a high cliff or craggy rock face..

    (10) Jg 15:13 And they spake unto him, saying , No; but we will bind thee fast , and deliver thee into their hand : but surely we will not kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords , and brought him up from the rock (cela`) .

.. and brought him up from the rock (cela`)..

In symbolic pictures in the next verse, Samson was awoken and the Holy Spirit power administrated the flow of power from Yahweh who would have been Jesus, the "cela" rock, upon whom were Samson's hands tied.
